The Andalusian regional elections held on March 17th saw a notable turnout, with 64.83% of the electorate exercising their right to vote. This figure represents a significant increase of 8.7 percentage points compared to the 2022 elections, when participation stood at 56.13%.
A total of 4,217,423 Andalusians went to the polls in this election, which was held independently, not coinciding with general elections. This participation level makes the 2026 elections the second regional election with the highest mobilization in Andalusia's history, surpassed only by the 1982 elections, which achieved 66.31%.
Electoral mobilization experienced growth across all eight Andalusian provinces. Almería led the increases with a rise of 11.14 points, closely followed by Granada, which added 10.66 points more than in the previous election. Jaén, despite having the smallest provincial increase (6.53 points), maintained one of the highest participation levels, reaching 68.61%.
The participation data by province was as follows: Córdoba (68.84% | +8.05 points), Jaén (68.61% | +6.53 points), Seville (67.19% | +8.17 points), Granada (66.31% | +10.66 points), Almería (62.44% | +11.14 points), Málaga (62.39% | +8.73 points), Huelva (62.22% | +8.36 points), and Cádiz (60.11% | +8.57 points).
This increase in voter turnout has contributed to a more competitive scenario in some municipalities and provinces, despite not altering the territorial dominance of the People's Party. Abstention, on the other hand, decreased to 35.16%, an eight-point reduction compared to 2022.
The participation updates throughout the day also reflected this upward trend. By 6:00 PM, participation stood at 52.16%, exceeding the 2022 figure at the same hour by 7.64 percentage points. At 2:00 PM, participation was 37.25%, 3.01 points higher than in the previous election, and by 11:30 AM, 15.10% was recorded, a slight initial dip that was reversed as the day progressed.
