The Andalusian Forest Fire Extinction Service (Infoca Plan) has declared the fire extinguished, which started around 11:00 AM last Thursday in the 'El Pocico' area, located in the La Vagoneta mining zone, impacting the municipalities of Huércal de Almería and the Almería capital.
The fire, declared extinguished at 12:30 PM, required the mobilization of up to six aerial resources, including two semi-heavy helicopters and one heavy helicopter from the Ministry for Ecological Transition (Miteco), along with two ground-loading aircraft and one coordination aircraft.
Firefighting efforts also involved three forest firefighter groups, two reinforcement brigades, two operations technicians, an environmental agent, an extinction technician, a supervisor, and a fire engine, supported by a medical unit.
The acting Minister of Health, Presidency, and Emergencies for the Regional Government of Andalusia, Antonio Sanz, expressed gratitude for the "enormous work" of the more than 400 personnel and 20 aircraft assigned to the Infoca Plan.
From the advanced command post, the delegate of the Regional Government in Almería, Aránzazu Martín, highlighted the challenges in containing the flames, which were exacerbated by high temperatures and wind in an area characterized by scrubland and low brush.
During Thursday, a second ignition point occurred in Benahadux, which was contained as a minor fire after generators caught alight, prompting the activation of the municipal emergency plan due to its proximity to the town.
The weather conditions necessitated the temporary evacuation of two firefighters, though they later returned to continue their duties. This incident occurred outside the official high-risk wildfire season, which officially begins on June 1st.
