The sea claimed the lives of two people this Saturday on the coast of Almería province. A 12-year-old minor died on Costacabana beach in the capital, and hours earlier, a 31-year-old woman lost her life on Los Muertos beach in Carboneras. Both incidents prompted extensive emergency operations.
The first incident occurred at Los Muertos beach. A woman, a resident of Almería city, became trapped by currents and the sea conditions. She was rescued in critical condition by a Salvamento Marítimo (Maritime Rescue) helicopter, and despite resuscitation attempts by health services, her life could not be saved.
Hours later, at Costacabana beach, a 12-year-old girl disappeared while swimming. A surfer managed to pull her from the water before Salvamento Marítimo arrived. Despite cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers initiated by a Policía Local (Local Police) officer and continued by 061 health teams, her death was confirmed.
Both rescue operations involved personnel from the Policía Nacional (National Police), Policía Local, Salvamento Marítimo, Protección Civil (Civil Protection), and the municipal beach service, highlighting the severity of the situations. These tragic events occur at the beginning of the high bathing season, when the number of beachgoers in the province's coastal areas significantly increases.
