The filming of the movie 'Wellington' commences this Saturday, May 23rd, in the province of Almería. The work plan includes several days of shooting in Tabernas, a location with cinematic history, as part of it was filmed there for Richard Lester's satirical and anti-war film How I Won the War, released in 1967 and featuring John Lennon.
The main locations will focus on the desert landscape and a nearby road. Although permits and specific site details are still pending official confirmation, according to sources close to the production, casting calls for extras and doubles have already circulated with references linked to John Lennon and The Beatles.
The casting company in charge has conducted costume tests and rehearsals. They are primarily seeking men between 18 and 55 years old, who will need to shave their beards and, in some cases, be willing to alter their hairstyle. A dog with a 'streetwise' or 'unkempt' appearance is also being sought for a specific day.
The casting process has attempted to find look-alikes for actors who participated in Lennon's film, such as Ewan Hooper and Jack Hedley. Lennon's stay in Almería during that shoot was later associated with the composition of the song Strawberry Fields Forever.
The potential connection to The Beatles arises in a broader context, marked by the project announced by Sony Pictures Entertainment and Neal Street Productions to create four films about the band, one for each member. This initiative, announced in 2024, holds the music and life story rights granted by Apple Corps, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison.
