Under the slogan ‘Understand to Include’, the Almería council aims to promote empathy and knowledge about the reality of people with disabilities, with the goal of building a more egalitarian society and breaking down barriers that go beyond the architectural.
The initiative is part of the II Municipal Plan for Disability and is complemented by the publication of a new Guide to Different Types of Disabilities and a Guide to Disability Resources for the city. These tools, according to councilor Paola Laynez, stem from active listening and collaboration with entities in the sector.
The presentation, held in the Plaza de la Constitución, was attended by representatives from about twenty associations related to disability, as well as from the University of Almería. The campaign will be disseminated through urban furniture and social media, using clear messages, intuitive pictograms, and QR codes to facilitate access to information about available resources and collaborating entities.
Councilor Paola Laynez emphasized the importance of breaking down not only physical barriers but also social, cultural, and knowledge-based ones, thanking the involvement of groups such as those from the Municipal Council for Disability and the Espacio Alma.
